    archaea are the bacteria that live in hostile and extreme places such as volcanos, where the temperature is really high (hyperthermophiles), or extremely salty water (halophiles), or in the anaerobic places where they produce methane (methanogenes). the differences with bacteria are mostly molecular

    Evolutionary differences in 18S rRNA genes and some unique membrane structures (I think they involve branched lipids or something).
