Is There A Difference Between A Registered Dental Assistant And A Dental Hygienist?

Is a registered dental assistant at the bottom of the degree’s?
Which pays more and are there any positions besides those and of course the dentist? I would want to work with an orthodontist.
Thanks!

Yes, there is a difference between the two, just as stated above. I work as a dental assistant and love it if you’re deciding between the two.

The Dental Hygenist has a specific job to do and they do it independently (though integrated with) the Dentist. The Dental Assistant assists the Dentist, but doesn’t do anything on their own.
The RDA is at the bottom of the rung, yes. The Hygenist probably gets paid for, but it would depend on the office you work for.
As for other positions, they’re pretty career-oriented. You could always go for a dental degree later if you wish.
And both positions would allow you to work with an Orthodontist, but the Hygenist would probably have an easier time learning the work of an RDA.
